Frequently Asked Questions
Here are more responses to our most frequently asked questions. If you need further assistance or can't find what you're looking for, please contact us.
What is your shipping policy?
We currently ship all orders via Royal Mail.
Free Tracked 48 Delivery is included with all number plate orders, offering reliable, trackable shipping at no extra cost.
For fixing kits and accessories, we provide free First Class delivery.
If you prefer a faster service, you can upgrade to Royal Mail Tracked 24 at checkout for an additional fee.
Can I collect my order?
Unfortunately right now we do not offer a collection service, however in the future we hope to expand and offer this service.
Do the names on the ID/proof of address and entitlement document need to match?
UK law allows number plates to be purchased as a gift, which means the names on the required documents do not need to match. You can use your own ID along with a registration entitlement document (such as a V5C or V750) that belongs to a family member or friend to complete your purchase with us.
Are 3D & 4D plates road legal?
Yes – our 3D and 4D number plates are 100% road legal. The DVLA confirms on its official website that “characters on a number plate can be 3D.” The term ‘4D’ is simply an industry label for raised characters made from laser-cut acrylic, and they still fall under the DVLA’s definition of 3D characters.
What About Shortened Plates?
Shortened number plates are also fully road legal, provided they meet legal spacing and margin requirements.
Road Legal Only
At Paramount Plates, we only produce plates that comply with BS AU 145e standards and DVLA regulations. We do not manufacture or sell show plates under any circumstances.
Will my 3D or 4D number plates pass an MOT?
Absolutely. If your 3D or 4D number plates are supplied by Paramount Plates, they are fully road legal and MOT compliant. All of our plates are manufactured to meet DVLA regulations and conform to the BS AU 145e standard — so there’s no need to worry about legality.
When will my number plates be dispatched?
Once we’ve received your valid ID and registration entitlement documents, your order is immediately placed into our production queue. In fact, 98% of orders are manufactured and dispatched the very same day we receive your documentation.
As a result, most customers receive their number plates within 2–3 working days from the time of ordering.
If there’s ever an issue with your order, we’ll contact you right away to resolve it quickly. At Paramount Plates, we’re committed to efficient production and fast, reliable delivery.
Can I cancel my order?
Yes, you can cancel your order, subject to our cancellation policy.
For number plate orders, cancellations are permitted before production begins or within 90 days of placing the order—whichever comes first. A £5 cancellation fee applies per plate to cover processing and handling costs.
Accessories can be cancelled free of charge, provided they have not yet been shipped.
To request a cancellation, please contact our customer service team as soon as possible via email or phone. We're here to assist and ensure your experience with Paramount Plates is smooth from start to finish.
How quickly are accessories, like sticky fixer kits or number plate surrounds, dispatched?
If your order contains accessories only, we’ll dispatch it the same day when placed before 3:30 PM.
Orders are sent via Royal Mail Second Class at no extra cost, with an estimated delivery time of two working days.
Need it sooner? You can choose to upgrade to First Class at checkout for faster, next-day delivery.
Where is my order for number plates?
If your order hasn’t arrived, please first check whether you’ve sent us your ID and registration entitlement documents. We can’t begin production until we’ve received and verified these.
Next, check your email for a tracking link — it’s sent automatically once your order is dispatched. Be sure to look in your spam or junk folder in case it’s been filtered.
If you’ve already submitted your documents and can’t find the tracking email, please get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.
Can I add a slogan to my number plates, such as my name?
No, this is not road legal.
UK law requires that the small text at the bottom of a number plate includes the supplier’s details, the manufacturer of the plate materials, and the British Standard (BS AU 145e) that the plate conforms to. Without this information, the plate does not meet legal requirements for use on public roads.
What size are standard UK number plates?
The standard size for UK number plates is 520mm wide by 111mm high — the dimensions most commonly seen on vehicles across UK roads.
My car has a curved bumper, can I still fit 4D plates?
The characters on our 4D number plates are applied using extremely strong adhesive, and we’ve had no issues with letters coming off due to curved bumpers in real-world use.
However, in rare cases where a bumper has an unusually extreme curve, and the plate must bend beyond what’s typical, there is a small risk that the adhesive bond may be affected. By purchasing 4D plates for such applications, you accept this risk and take responsibility for the outcome.
If you're concerned about flexibility, we recommend choosing our 3D Gel plates instead. Their softer, more flexible construction makes them an ideal alternative for curved surfaces.
Do I have to show you my documents to order number plates?
This is a legal requirement for all number plate suppliers in the UK. To receive number plates from Paramount Plates, you must send us your original, physical proof of address and proof of entitlement to the registration before we can produce your plates.
This process is in place to help prevent criminal activity, such as number plate cloning. Once you’ve placed your order (effectively paying a deposit), you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to post your documents to us.
This is a DVLA-mandated requirement — documentation must be shown for every number plate order. For a full list of accepted documents, please click here.
Any company producing number plates without verifying original documents is operating illegally. We follow the rules to ensure your plates are fully road legal and responsibly issued.
What is your Warranty Policy?
Every number plate from Paramount Plates is backed by a comprehensive 36-month warranty, covering issues such as tunnelling (where moisture causes separation between the reflective layer and acrylic) and letter de-lamination. We stand by the quality of our products and are committed to long-term reliability.
For added peace of mind, you can choose to include our Paramount Protection Plan at checkout. This optional upgrade entitles you to two free replacements within two years of your original order — perfect for protection against unexpected damage or accidents.
If you have any questions about your warranty or want to learn more about our protection options, feel free to get in touch via our contact page.
